Street Vibe is an exciting new project developed by a group of like-minded musicians, scientists and engineering professionals. It aims to raise public interest in engineering through acoustics while engaging young people through the use of high and low technology.

Street Vibe culminated with the final and main event, the Street Vibe Festival of Sound at The Scoop at More London on 14 June 2008. The aim of the project was to highlight the importance of engineering and help people realise how creative engineering can be.

  • Percussionist and composer Eugene Skeef and science communicator Steve Mesure conducted the mass participation event live on a big screen.

  • Visitors to The Scoop were encouraged to participate using mobile phones, marimbas, djembes, water drums, udus, street furniture and other home-made instruments.

  • The concert was accompanied by projections of the visual equivalent of the sounds, experimental film art depicting rhythm and movement as well as slowed down footage of high-speed frequencies.

  • There were demonstrations by scientists and engineers on stage and in marquees around The Scoop.
